I think that the article we read was spot on old people are discriminates against. whether we realize it or not this is unfair and unnecessary action. i believe that this discrimination contributes to youth fear of growing old. this stigma needs to be addressed and rectified so the elderly don't feel so ostracized.
I believe that the article about discrimination to the old is spot on, it hits all the right issues that go along with the issue and give good points that need to be addressed. I think that this article makes the younger generation worried about growing up because they know they will be discriminated against.
I completely agree with this article and it actually makes me sad. I don't think that people should be discriminated against for ANY reason. Everybody gets old, so it's unfair to be discriminated against for being an elderly person. We should value the elderly in our society because they have lived their lives a lot longer, and they know what life is all about. Everybody disregards the opinions of the elderly because they are "slow and stupid" when really they know a lot more than you think. I look up to older people because they have lived longer and give good advice, and as far as the elderly that are sick, there are other people in the world with problems too, and that doesn't make them any less of a human being.
i think that the elderly are to be respected as active members of society. discrimination based on age is unjust they have lived longer than we have and they have more knowledge to give us and hep us live a better life. in my opinion we as a society have lost respect for our elders that must be regained. Peter Demchenko
I think that the elderly should be respected even more than anyone, because they've got more knowledge and more experiences in their life since they've been around longer than people who are younger than them.If people are going to disrespect or discriminate against the elders, then the elders technically have the power to not be respectful towards people who are disrespectful to them. The article was very true, elderly people are discriminated against and its wrong. We are all equal no matter what our age. Young people think they are better and have more power due to new ideas and technology, but the elderly have contributed very much to our society. Kaley
I agree with what this article is saying that the elderly are being discriminated. I think that putting anyone into a group and discriminating them is wrong. It seems in society that the elderly are viewed as clueless and not able to do anything themselves, while in reality the elderly can be very wise. We should have the same respect for everyone no matter what. They have gained knowledge throughout their lives and they can still contribute to society. Everyone is going to get old eventually. Nobody should be generalized into certain stereotypes just because of their age. We need to learn to show respect for all. Discriminating will only hurt and should never be justified. Ethan
I think that the elderly (and everyone) should be teated equally and with respect and dignity. The elderly can be and are in a lot of cases, active members of society and contribute a lot to our world. They are our history just as our children are the future.I do think that this article ignores one point that supports ageism. That many people in the elderly community do not try to keep up with the times or get involved in society. I don't think that this is a valid point at all, but I think that if they had addressed some of these counter arguments the article would have been way more convincing and much stronger. I don't really understand why we discriminate against groups that we all, in theory will become a part of. Why should getting old be a bad thing? Our society needs to reevaluate our thoughts and actions.
i believe the elderly shouldn't be treated differently. They have as much rights as we do and they can do whatever they want. People shouldn't think of getting old as a bad thing, just because they are older then us doesn't mean they have health issues or are unable to go to work. They should be treated with the most respect, they have lived longer and are very knowledgeable. Society needs to portray the elderly with more positive actions. Jessa J.
I feel the elderly do not deserve to be treated unfairly. We should all be listening to their issues with our society because some day we will grow old and the issues we created for them will effect us. Every individual is different so why are we forcing everyone to retire at a certain age? If people are able to work we should allow them to. Every senior should have the same rights to healthcare as everyone else. If we force restrictions to their healthcare it will effect the younger generation too. Our world needs to see this issue from the eyes of the elder and make necessary changes.
